Sacai is a Japanese luxury fashion brand founded in 1999 by Chitose Abe in Tokyo, emerging from her need for creative expression during motherhood. Named after Abe's maiden name "Sakai," the brand began as a small home-based operation creating handmade knitwear pieces. Abe's extensive background as a pattern maker at Comme des Garçons under Rei Kawakubo and later with Junya Watanabe's team provided the technical foundation for her innovative approach to design.
